A Championship Season

The 2026 Remington Park spring meet belonged to this gelding.

Point Blank Range is an Oklahoma-bred gelding who races for 918 Bloodstock and trains out of the Keener Racing barn of Dee Keener. By Tell Cartel and out of Fannie Blankers, a daughter of Bodacious Dash, he was bred in Oklahoma by J. Garvan Kelly and J. Lloyd Yother and was bought by 918 Bloodstock for $40,000 at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

At the 2026 Remington Park spring meet, he was perfect — three starts, three wins. He won his trial for the Remington Park Derby, though his time did not advance him to that final, and he saved his best for the meet’s closing night.

On May 30, under jockey Roman Cruz, Point Blank Range broke on top in the Heritage Place Derby (G2) and never looked back — gate to wire, a full length in front at the wire. The $335,800 race paid $141,036 to the winner, and it was the 12th win of the meet for 918 Bloodstock.

When Remington Park’s Parade of Stars ballots were counted — votes from industry media, track racing management and handicappers — Point Blank Range was voted the meet’s Champion 3-Year-Old Male. The honor capped a meet in which his owner, 918 Bloodstock, was the meet’s leading owner for the second straight year and his trainer, Dee Keener, was its leading trainer for the fourth straight year.

The campaign continued in New Mexico. Point Blank Range was the ninth-fastest qualifier to the Rainbow Derby (G1) final at Albuquerque, finishing 10th in the $756,299 final on July 11. In August he won his All American Derby trial heat, and on September 6 he finished fifth in the All American Invitational.
